O.P.I. Fall 2011 Collection - Touring America

The major theme of the O.P.I. seasonal polish collections this year seems to be the United States and colors that have been inspired by areas of the country.  So far this year we have already seen a collection based totally on Texas and now we are going to see shades that have been designed for all different areas of this country.  I feel like O.P.I. is always doing collections based on different areas of the world and it was just a matter of time before they found shades that were based on the United States.  I wasn't all that excited by the Texas collection and I am hoping that this collection is a bit better.  I tend to be more into collections based on areas of Western Europe but I will give this collection a fair shot. 

O.P.I. isn't a consistent favorite collection of mine since many of their limited edition shades are just repeats of their permanent collection and they are never as unique as some of the shades from other companies.  However, I know that I can always find any type of shade from this company.  O.P.I has some really nice shades but I can't say that I would purchase the majority of the shades (like I would China Glaze).  "O.P.I. takes to the American road with a palette of shades that brings a new spirit of classic style to life."

As with any O.P.I. collection, there are a few shades that I like from this collection and will plan on purchasing but there is nothing that I am completely in love with.  There is nothing super-unique in this collection but it is a good, solid collection that will appeal to many women.  I feel like O.P.I. is running out of both names and shades at this point and the company is beginning to repeat products. 

The being said...I still have a few shades that I will be seeking out from this group of products.  I love Road House Blues since it is a deep navy.  I also like Suzi Takes the Wheel, I can see myself using this pale gray a lot over the next few months.  French Quarter for Your Thoughts is another gray that I will be using this fall too.  I really only like the blue and gray shades from this collection, the corals are awful and many of the other shade are just too warm for my skintone.

Final thought, the name I Eat Mainly Lobster made me gag, this is not a polish for vegetarians...

O.P.I. Summer 2011 Collection - Pirates of the Caribbean

The newest installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean movie comes out the 20th of this month and the hype is already beginning to build.  Back in college, I spent most of my time outside the classroom being in love with Orlando Bloom and the Pirates movies just fed my love.  I still admire Orlando Bloom but I do have to say that my long term love is Captain Jack Sparrow and the one of a kind Johnny Depp.  And now Captain Jack is back and it is time for me to go to movies with the rest of the Pirates fans!

In conjunction with the movie release, O.P.I. has released a new color collection to bring in both the summer season and the summer blockbuster season.  I wonder how many girls will be wearing one of these shades to the movie.  This collection consists of six pastel shades and one of the shatter top coats that became so popular with the release of the Katy Perry collection earlier this year (or very end of last year, the date is slightly fuzzy at the moment).  I have a feeling that we are going to see many more of the shatter-type top coats other the next seasons, both from O.P.I. and many other beauty product companies.  The shatter isn't exactly appropriate for work but it really makes a statement when going out at night.

The shades range from the typical pastels to a more extreme aqua and shimmery gray.  On first sight, I like all of them and I will a hard time trying to pick just two or three.  The first shade is named Mermaid's Tears and is a pale aqua shimmer.  This is one of my two favorite shades of the collection.  This is one is very unique and we all know how much I love my blues and aquas.  The second shade of the collection is another one that I find very attractive.  This one is named Stranger Tides, a shimmery gray that almost has a taupe cast to it.  This one is a warmer gray but I can't consider it to be a taupe shade, this is a bit on the hard side to describe.  On my first glance, I don't consider this one work appropriate but depending how much taupe is in it, it might be wearable it is more on the sheer side.

The next new shade in this collection is Planks A Lot, my other favorite of the collection.  This one is a lilac shimmer and I will wear this one all the time.  I would pair this shade as a manicure with either Lippmann's Wicked Game or Purple Rain as a pedicure.  This one is a must buy for me because I have been wearing purples and lilacs all spring and will continue through the summer.  And the fall (to be realistic).  The fourth shade is the last one that seems to have a specific color, the last two seem to be much less pigmented.  This shade is named Sparrow Me The Drama, a pale pink rose that also has a shimmer finish.  This one is quite pretty but I don't know how much wear I would get from this shade so I don't think that I would be buying this one.

The last two shades appear to be pales and I think they will appear more on the sheer side (unless built up with multiple coats).  The first of the sheers is named Steady As She Rose, a pale pink.  This one seems as though it will appear as a sheer pink shimmer on the nail and won't give much pigment.  The second sheer is named Skull & Glossbones, a sheer through taupe.  I'm not really interested in these two shades since I prefer pales with no shimmer when I want a pale nail. 

The shatter shade is named Silver Shatter, a silver shimmer that creates the cracked pattern on the nails.  Personally, I would prefer the black shatter with all the pastels in this collection.  The silver is on the metallic side and I think that it might not be enough contrast against the other shades in this collection.  That being said, I will be skipping out on the shatter shade and trying out the black with these instead.  My two favorite shades from the collection are Plank A Lot and Mermaid's Tear and I will get tons of wear from both of the shades.  I also like the Stranger Tides shade but I need to see this one in person since the picture on the O.P.I. website doesn't really answer the question of how much silver vs. taupe is in it.

I wonder how many girls will be wearing one of these shades to the movie this summer.  Personally, I think that I would be doing the Mermaid's Tears look for the movie.  It is now time to continue my obsession with Captain Jack Sparrow...

O.P.I. Spring 2011 Collection - Texas

So far this spring we have looked at the O.P.I. for Sephora polish collection and now it is time for the regular O.P.I. collection. These collections couldn't be any more different, the Sephora one is all pales and modern shades. This collection is based on Texas and the big, open country. As far as I am concerned, this is not a collection for me. Texas has given us cowboys, ten gallon hats, and one of my least favorite football teams ever. This collection is as far it can get from the Gris City collection from Dior that I fell in love with much earlier this spring. Hopefully there might still be some worthwhile shades in this collection even though I dislike the overall theme.

"Get ready for modern American style, as O.P.I. comes "home" to the USA with the Texas Collection. A fresh and refreshing facet to an effortlessly chic, very unique, and colorful original style season. Includes 6 unique shades with a "sorbet-like" finish". This company doesn't really describe what the "sorbet-like" finish is but looking at the shades it appears that they are a cream with a shimmery finish. I would imagine they almost have more of a jelly-like finish when they dry on the nail. If anyone has anymore information about this, please leave me a comment about it.

None of these shades are very unique, O.P.I. must have released shades like this tons of times before hand. My favorite shade is Austin-tatious, the aqua shade that will look great against all the silvers and grays that have been popular so far this spring. The other two shades that I like are It's Totally Fort Worth It and I Vant To Be A'Lone Star. I don't know if I really dislike any of the other shades but I don't find them unique enough to warrant purchase this time around. I am also not a fan of the names so I'm not even swayed by the marketing of this collection.

O.P.I Katy Perry Collection

This is one of the few collections that I nearly screamed when I first saw. To put it in perspective, the last that I did that was when I first read about Viva Glam Gaga. I am still rocking my Katy Perry bangs and I love them even more as the weeks go by and they grow a bit longer. Since I have her bangs now, it is only fitting that I need her nail polish to top it off. This isn't Katy's first venture into the beauty world. Last spring, Lippmann Collection named a shade after Waking Up in Vegas and Katy's first fragrance was released exclusively to Nordstrom last holiday season. This time around, she gets a whole collection to herself.

"Dazzling, colorful, and totally unique...that's Katy Perry. And we LOVE her! Katy's on-stage glam is yours for the taking with shimmering shades of silver, blue, pink, and plum. Add a little edge with our Black Shatter shade - a rockin' new color that creates a 'shattered' effect when applied over dry nail lacquer. Fine, fresh, & fierce...just like Katy".

The first shade is named after her recent hit, Teenage Dream. This song is one of my favorites from her and that attracts me instantly to this polish. This is pink shade, it a cool pale pink with a glitter finish. This one looks as though it will be a very glittery polish and I really like this shade. I will wear this shade all spring and summer and I think that it could even work into next fall. The other shade with the glitter finish is Last Friday Night. This one is a medium cobalt blue and the glitter in the polish looks as though it will have an iridescent cast and shine all different shades. This one is another hit for me from this collection.

The last two shades from this collection have a shimmer finish and are more subtle than the all out glitter shades. Not Like the Movies is a shimmery deep silver and will be perfect with all the trends that we are seeing this spring. I love this shade too. The last shade is named after The One That Got Away. This is a cool toned magenta with a slight shimmer cast. This shade is my least favorite of the collection but I still find it very pretty. This is the only shade that I wouldn't purchase but that is really only because I already own a polish that is almost this exact shade already.

The Black Shatter is a new comcept for this company and one that I haven't seen in a quite a long time on the beauty market. I feel that the last time that I saw any type of cracked polish topcoat was when I was in high school. So this is very unique and very edgy, the Katy Perry collection is one of the few that they could have brought out a product like this. This polish might be a bit much for me for an everyday look especially over a polish with the glitter finish. however, this polish would rock for a night out especially for the nights that I wear one of my collection of little black dresses. I found and added an image that would show off that way that the Black Shatter performs on application.

O.P.I. Holiday 2010 Collection - Burlesque

The newest holiday collection for O.P.I. was made with the creators of the movie Burlesque, a musical that just opened the other week starring Cher and Christina Aquilera. Ever since Chicago opened in 2003, I have been loving musicals that involve lovely costumes and fantastic dancing. O.P.I. states, "O.P.I. captures all the glitz & glamour of the Sony Pictures musical Burlesque starting Cher and Christina Aquilera in the Holiday 2010 Burlesque Collection - an inspired range of 12 nail lacquers that will command an audience all season long!" This collection is divided into two groups, one group that a has a shimmer finish and one that has a full-on glitter finish.

I have favorites in both finishes of this polish. From the glitter collection, I really like Sparkle-licious (the featured photo is of this shade), Show It & Glow It, and Simmer & Shimmer. From the shimmer collection, I am very fond of Ali's Big Break. Ali's Big Break is a fantastic holiday shade and will be perfect this season and beyond.

O.P.I. Fall 2010 Collection - Swiss Collection

I loved Switzerland when I visited there several years ago. I loved the Alps and the beautiful cities and would have willingly spend much more time there then I was able to. I still plan to get back there one day soon. "Beyond the borders of a classic neutral palette into a new zone where refined shades of rich color become the definitive go-to hues to wear everyday".

This collection contains some great hues for fall! My favorite is the Ski Teal We Drop shade, the one that has been in many of the fashion magazines over the past month. This is the shade that is pictured here too. I think the shades that I would get the most wear after of would be the paler shades; The Color To Watch, Lucerne-tainly Look Marvelous, and Glitzerland. I really like Yodel Me On My Cell, Cuckoo for this Color, and From A to Z-urich.

I am still surprised that none of these shades have anything with the famed Lion of Lucerne but I love this whole collection.

O.P.I. Summer 2010 Collection - Summer Flutter

In addition to the summery feeling collection created for the new Shrek movie, O.P.I. has also created a very pretty new collection of shades inspired by butterflies and nature. This collection is named Summer Flutter and consists of four bright summery shades of polish. Just from viewing the promo picture, I feel that this collection is going to sell like crazy. The colors aren't super unique but they are great choices for every woman.

The first shade is named Flower to Flower and this shade is a bright mid tone blue pink. It has a cream finish with no shimmer at all. I predict that this color will go over huge with the bright pink polish trend that has been going on so far this summer. I want this shade and will love it for summer pedicures.

The second shade is more a warmer tone than any of the others. This shade is named Flit a Bit and is a warm toned coral orange. I do not like this shade at all. i think that it is too orange to be attractive. Also, it will not work for my skintone but would be great for those of use with tans or warmer skin tones.

The third shade is another pink toned, though it is deeper than the other and could be considered more of a magenta than a true pink. The name of this shade is Wing It and it appears in the picture to have a slight shimmer to it. I really like this shade also and want to get a bottle of it for both manicures and pedicures.

The last new shade is my favorite. We have been seeing lots of great blues this season and this is no excecption. This shade is named Catch Me In Your Net and is a mid tone blue turquoise with shimmery finish. This is the shade that I want the most and will be going out to get this one soon. I can also this one selling out very quickly.

OPI Shrek Forever After Collection

As I wrote a few weeks ago on the Sex and the City movie tie in fragrance, now we have another beauty collection tie in to check out. The third Shrek movie came out over the summer and now OPI has a new collection of shades based on this film. I have never seen any of the previous movies so I don't plan on seeing this one but I do plan on seeing what bright new shades are being released in conjunction. There are six shades in total, one dark, two pale, and three bright.

The first shade is named Funky Dunkey and this one is a deep blue purple cream. This shade is pretty but is it rather generic and could be very easily dupable. I like this one but this isn't unique enough for me to purchase and if I did, I don't that I would use it more than half a dozen times at most.

The second and third shades are the paler shades and these are my two favorite of the new collection. I would like to buy both of these shades and can see myself getting a decnet amount of use out of both. the first of the two shades in named What's With the Cattitude? and is a pale robin egg blue cream shade. I love this one and I think this is my favorite of all the shades. The second pale shade is named Rumple's Wiggin. This shade is a pale pink lavender cream and even though it looks like a bunch of shades that I currently own, I will buy it and use it a lot.

The last few shades of the collection are the bright shades and I think that these will be the best selling shades of the collection. The first bright shade is named Who the Shrek Are You?. This shade is a bright yellow green cream. I doubt this shade will be flattering on me but I can see it being a hit for pedicures and working well against tanned skin with more golden undertones. The second bright shade is named Ogre-the-Top Blue and this is my favorite of the bright shades. This one is a bright ocean blue cream, I love this shade. This one will be great for pedicures for this summer especially against white or silver sandals. The last new shade of the collection is named Fiercly Fiona and is a bright yellow. I don't like this shade at all and it would look awful on me.

I want three new shades from this collection. I want both of the pale shades, What's With the Cattitude? and Rumple's Wiggin. I want one of the bright shades, only the Orge-the-Top Blue. Not my favorite collection ever but it still produced a couple of items for me to check out.

O.P.I. Spring 2010 Collection - Hong Kong

O.P.I.'s newest collection for spring is called Hong Kong and is based on the Asian culture alive in that city. I'm not quite sure what exactly Hong Kong has do to with spring but I guess that I will find out as I look through this collection. O.P.I. describes the collection as follows, "City edge. Shades that capture the brillant sharpness of the cityscape. A modern mood of color and persceptive for spring". Ok let's look at the shades.

A Good Man-darin Is Hard To Find - orange-red cream

I guess I can see the point about the cutting edge and modern colors. I do like that there is a huge range of colors in this collection, this should go over well with the general market. Some of the warmer toned shades look as though they would work better in fall than in spring but I do give this company points for being different. From this collection, I want an equal amount of the deeper cool toned shades and the paler shades. I want Jade is the New Black (the polish pictured in the photo) and Suzi Says Feng Shui. Of the paler shades offered, I want Meet Me On the Star Ferry, Lucky Lucky Lavender, Panda-monium Pink, and Pearl of Wisdom.

O.P.I. Alice in Wonderland Collection

All of the hype around Alice in Wonderful has swelled and reached a fever pitch with the release of the movie. Before anyone even asks, no I have not seen the movie nor have I gotten my hands on the Book of Shadows yet. I do plan to do both in the near future. Another collection has been released to celebrate this movie, this one from nail polish company O.P.I. Four new shades are available on the O.P.I. website and I bet that there will be tons of ladies wearing one of these polish shades and the Urban Decay shadow shades when they go see this movie.

The first shade is called Thanks So Muchness and it is mid-tone berry cream. This is one of the shades that is on the more traditional side of this collection and could eaasily be worked into any look. The second shade is another one that is a cream and a more traditional shade. It is called Off With Her Red! and is a blue based true red. Both of these colors are very nice but they are pretty common and I bet that O.P.I. already had shades very much like these in their collection.

The other shades are the less traditional of the collection and both of them have a shimmery finish. My favorite shade is Absolutely Alice and is a shade that some would consider blue and some would consider it to have an aqua cast to it. I put it firmly in with blue group and I have always loved blue polishes, so this one is a great fit for me. The last shade of the collection is called Mad As A Hatter. That one wins for my favorite shade name from this collection! This shade is a medium blue purple and the photo on the website makes it look as though it has an iridescent cast to it.

I searched through a couple of blogs in hopes that I could find better pictures of these polishes but I have come up empty so far. I found one picture of Mad As A Hatter in April's Glamour and it appears in that photo to have multi-colored sparkles in it yet too. I want to get both of the shimmery shades from this collection. My top pick is the Absolutely Alice but I was want to try Mad As A Hatter in a pedicure. I don't know that I could pull it off in a manicure so I will be starting out with it on my toes in sandal weather.

O.P.I. Holiday 2009 Collection - Holiday Wishes

O.P.I.'s newest collection for this season is called Holiday Wishes. Lately, I have been obsessed with nail polish and am changing my shades on a near daily basis. I don't quite know where this sprang out of expect maybe the resurgence in popularity of unnatural colors that I ended up adoring. So I have been pretty excited about many of the new nail polish collections that have been popping up. The O.P.I. website gives the following as the collection description, "For Holiday 2009, O.P.I. sends it best with Holiday Wishes - 12 stunning Nail Lacquer shades including six wish-upon-a-star reds and six most-wished-for dark and neutral tones".

The O.P.I. website did not have color descriptions so the above descriptions were myself trying to see the different shades and how they compared to each other. I know that O.P.I. is a slightly more conservative brand than many others out there but I did find this collection to be somewhat of a let down especially after many other lines have released. REally, I don't want much of anything from this collection so I shall be passing on the whole line.

O.P.I. South Beach Collection

The latest O.P.I. collection for the spring and summer months is called South Beach and it is full of shades that are pinks, tans, corals, and a purple here and there. At first glance, I thought that it only looked “ok” and not something that I fell in love with. But I decided that I should at least go through and look at every color and see if there are any gems in this collection. The description from O.P.I. is here right, “Undeniably Hot! When you think heat, think South Beach. OPI South Beach Collection features a palette of shades that captures the color, the fashion and the trend-setting excitement of the world's most stylish celebrity playground- South Beach. A new polish collection for Spring 2009, the South Beach colors span from a playful nude to a deep bronze, a sun-burnt purple to a party-ready coral. Head South for Spring with these exciting shades!” Could be fun…maybe.

Of the whole collection, I really like Suzy and the Lifeguard and Sand in my Suit (the picture is of this shade). I sort of like Done Out in Deco and Paint My Moji-Toes Red. I’m just not that into this collection, it’s cute but I feel like it has all been done before.

O.P.I. Holiday 2008 Collection

I have been talking about holiday makeup for the last few weeks here and now I need to break from it and cover something else that is holiday inspired. After seeing an ad for the new O.P.I. holiday nail polish colors, I knew that I had a new topic to write about. For nail polishes, I mostly use Lippmann Collection and Chanel. I also have a couple of old bottles of Essie, O.P.I., and Nicole but I haven’t really used them in ages and I may have thrown most of them away last time I cleaned out my traincase. So this collection is all new to me and I am ready to investigate some new colors from this company. This collection is called Holiday in Toyland and it is 12 new nail shades with 3 coordinating shades for lips.

The matching lip shades that are available are Little Red Wagon, Rosy Mistletoes-sies, and Don’t Toy With Me. From this collection, I can already find some new colors that give me a reason to get back into shopping for O.P.I. I definitely want “Sheer” Your Toys, You’re a Doll, and Play Til’ Midnight. I also want to check out A Ruby for Rudolph and see how it compares to other reds that I have. I really want to see Baby, It’s “Coal” Outside and see if I can pull this color off in real life.
