I am starting my Brand Spotlight products of this month with the eye cream that I have been lovng for the past few weeks. I made a large Kiehl's order early last month and I have been testing all new skincare products to review this month. I really do love trying and reviewing new skincare products and my skin has been improving over the past few weeks with use all of the new Kiehl's items. I have decided to start with the Creamy Eye Treatment as I started using this product a few days before any others. I know that opinion is divided as to the overall need for a separate eye cream but I do enjoy using a separate product to help hydrate this delicate undereye skin and to help reduce the appearance of puffiness and dark circles.
"This nourishing under eye cream offers creamy hydration suitable for all skin types. Gently moisturizes the delicate under-eye area. Uniquely concentrated formula does not migrate into the eyes. Infused with efficacious ingredients including Beta-Carotene, Shea Butter, and Avocado Oil. Ophthalmologist- and dermatologist-tested for safety. For all skin types, including sensitive. Our top-rated eye cream beloved by Kiehl's customers.", states the Kiehl's website.
The Kiehl's website provides more details on the three key ingredients contined in the Creamy Eye Treatment.
Avocado Oil - Derived from the beloved Avocado Fruit, Avocado Oil has a rich, emollient texture and contains a balance of lipids including omega essential fatty acids. Within our formula, Avocado Oil is known to moisturize, nourish, and soften skin.
Beta-Carotene - Beta-Carotene is a naturally-derived antioxidant predominantly found in many orange and red vegetables such as carrots. It is used in Vitamin A production and can give an orange tint when used in skincare products.
Shea Butter - Shea Butter is the natural fat obtained from the fruit of the African Karate tree and is widely used in lotions and cleansing products. Within our formulas, Shea Butter is known to help defend dehydration, restore suppleness, and improve the appearance of dry skin.
This product can be used day and night and is designed for the undereye area. I started by using this at both times during the day but I quickly decided that this cream is too thick to use before undereye concealer. The texture of the Cream Eye Treatment is a very thick, rich cream and needs to be warmed up before application. I tried to use this product dotted right onto my undereye area and then pat it in but it wasn't fully absorbing when I tried to use in this manner. After a few applications, I found that I have to get it onto the pad of my ring finger and then rub both of my ring fingers together until I melt the product down. Once I melt it down, I can easily apply it to the undereye area and it will absorb in quickly. I found several reviews on this products and nearly everyone recommends using it in this manner.
I love the hydrating properties of this eye cream and I would recommend it to anyone with a dry under eye area. I am glad that I tried it in the winter months as I am not sure if this would be too heavy in the summer months. This is a great night eye cream and a great introduction to the Kiehl's brand. I love that the ingredients in this product are more natural and I can see how this is one of the best selling products that Kiehl's carries.
I have more work to do with the rest of the products that I ordered from this company but this eye cream was a great introduction to the brand and I am looking forward to working more with the rest of my order.

LUSH Honey I Washed The Kids Bar Soap
Late winter is the time of the years when my skin is the driest and I have found that I benefit from swapping out my Bath and Body Works Shower Gels for more gentle bar soap formulas. This always means that I need to have a decent-sized LUSH order made well before the end of December. This usually presents no problems as I order from them in late fall once their Christmas collection releases and then I often order again right after Christmas so that I can grab up some last items from their big sale. This time around, I decided to order a combination of holiday products and a few of the best sellers that I haven't tried yet. One of the best sellers that I ordered is the best-selling Honey I Washed The Kids Bar Soap and I am regretting that I only ordered one bar of it...
Honey I Washed The Kids has been a cult LUSH product that I remember ever since I started shopping the brand in 2008. This caramel-scented product is perfect the fall and winter and I can easily see why this is one of the best sellers of the brand.
"This is one of our best-selling soaps and it's no wonder why: it's simply irresistible! One sniff and you'll need this sweet caramel fragrance in your life. But get ready to share, because it's so gentle, buttery, and scrumptious that you'll have a hard time keeping it to yourself. We use real honey and beeswax in every batch to soothe skin, while honey water and aloe help soften and moisturize, leaving the whole family clean and smelling bee-autiful.", states the LUSH website.
The star ingredient in this product is Honey, a natural humectant and hydrator. I have used honey in my winter skincare for years now and this ingredient (plus the smell!) are what made my try this Bar Soap over some of the other ones that they offer. Honey will attract moisture from the atmosphere and pull it into the skin and the thicker texture of this ingredient will also help keep moisture locked into the skin. This is exactly what I need at this time of the year and I will be using this product until it runs out.
I have tried using this product applied directly to wet skin and applied to a washcloth. I tend to prefer my bar soaps applied directly to wet skin, they will usually lather less and help my skin stay hydrated for longer periods. I still liked it when applied with a washcloth but I would prefer to use it right on wet skin in the shower. I have also found that applying the product directly to my skin makes the soap lasts longer and I should be able to use the same bar until the beginning of March.
The caramel fragrance is light and wonderful, this is pretty fragrance for fall and winter but will be too heavy in the warm weather months. The scent remains lightly on my skin but fills the whole bathroom with fragrance, this is typical of most LUSH bar soaps and is one of the major reasons that I keep purchasing them over and over.
I can't say that Honey I Washed The Kids is any more or less hydrating than any of the other LUSH Bar Soaps that I have used in the past. All of their Bar Soaps hydrate my skin nicely and I will continue to order these every year. I will order another bar of this product once the cooler weather starts to roll around again!

L'Occitane Shea Cleansing Face Milk
Today we will be looking at my second try with the L'Occitane Shea facial skincare line, many of you will remember the disaster that I had last year with one of the skin creams and may be surprised that I have decided to give this line a second go around. I had very high hopes for the hydrating face cream that I tried from this line and still have very clear memories of the redness and swelling that it caused my face and neck and I went back to using all Clinique products for a few weeks after this issue. At this time, I decided that I would never use any other product from this line even though I have loved many of the body products for years beforehand. Obviously, I have decided to give a product from this line a second try and the results are much better this time around.
I decided several weeks ago that I really wanted to give the Shea face line another try and starting thinking about what product I would like to try this time and how I was going to go about it. My initial thoughts were to chose a product that I do not leave on my face this time around and I settled on a face cleanser from the line and obtained several samples from the L'Occitane store before I decided to order the full size. We will look at the product that I chose and then we will get into how I patch-tested it and a full review.
The product that I decided to try out is the Face Cleansing Milk from the Shea line, I had used a cream cleanser from another line produced by this company when I was in college and I loved it. I think my love of that product and the matching face lotion and cream are the reasons that I bought the L'Occitane face cream and never properly tested it before rubbing it all over my face. "This cleansing milk, with its creamy texture, gently cleanses and removes makeup. Enriched with softening shea and soothing licorice extract, it preserves skin's natural hydration and leaves it clean, supple, and comfortable.", states the company's website.
The manager at my local L'Occitane store was very generous with the samples of this product while I was deciding if I could use this all over my face. I started with testing it on my forearm; the skin in this area is much less sensitive than my face, neck, or hands. I tested this face wash in the shower for three days on my forearm area and experienced no irritation. I then moved on to testing it on my hands, my hands are much more sensitive than my forearm and irritation develops easily on them. Obviously, I had no irritation after three days worth of testing in this area and then I repeated the test on the back of my neck. After three days of testing on my neck with no irritation, I decided that I would use my last sample to wash my face and then purchase the full size bottle.
I am very happy that this face wash worked out for me, I have been using it for about three weeks now and I have been very much enjoying it. I use one and a half pumps of this product to cleanse my entire face, I do not use this product to take my eye makeup off and always go in with a separate remover in this area. I have tried quite a few milk cleansers over the years and I have found that they often need a separate toner to remove every trace of makeup that I put on my face in the morning, this holds true for this product and I have been purchasing the huge bottles of the Clinique Toner designed for dry to very dry skin to use every other day.
This cleanser does not foam up and rinses cleanly with water. I like that this product doesn't dry my skin out or leave it with the "tight" feeling that most gel cleansers would at this time of the year. I would recommend this cleanser to anyone with skin that is dry and I could not see anyone with normal or oily skin liking this product. The Shea Cleansing Face Milk is a very good choice for my dry winter skin and I will continue to use it throughout the spring months. I do not yet know if this might be too heavy for my skin once the warm weather hits.
I have had one hit and one huge miss from the L'Occitane Shea face line, I am still trying to decide if I will be trying any other products from this line. I am still hesitant to try other moisturizers from this line and I would be even less comfortable using any product from this line around my eyes. I would only consider trying other products from this line if I could obtain a few samples and repeat the extensive patch-testing, I am so happy that the manager of my store was willing to help me with all the samples and I would go back to her if I decide to try another products from this skincare line.

Fitness Friday - Bolthouse Farms Blue Goodness Juice
It is the dead of winter and I have been feeling that lack of ready fruits and vegetables available at my grocery store, this is the hardest time of the year for me to keep up with my diet and exercise plan. I have been missing all the fresh fruits that I eat all throughout the summer and I have been trying to find new juices and smoothies to tide me over for the next few months. I have used a lot of Bolthouse Farms products in the past and I visited this area of my local grocery store when I wanted to start my search. My favorite drink from this line is the Strawberry Banana and I wanted to find more colors in these juices as to mix up my diet.
The Bolthouse Farms website provides the following description of this juice, "Blueberries, blackberries and black currants are often described as super foods. Our Blue Goodness is made with the juice of these fruits and gives you an excellent source of 11 essential nutrients." Each bottle of this juice contains 3 and 3/4 servings of fruit therefore less than one bottle of this juice per day would provide me with all needed servings of fruit.
Contained in this juice are: Apple Juice, Banana Puree, Blueberry Juice, Lemon Juice, Black Currant Juice, Purple Carrot Concentrate, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Vitamin B3, Vitamin B5, Vitamin B9, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B7, and Vitamin B12. This juice will provide a whole host of vitamins and anti-oxidants and I hoping these juices will make me feel better during the winter months.
I think my favorite part of this juice is how great that it tastes, blueberries are one of my favorite berries to eat when they are in season and now I can drink them all year long. I will be drinking this juice all throughout the winter and I will be trying even more juices from this company. I will be reporting back once I have tried more from this company and I will be reporting back once I find more juices worth posting about.

Fresh Seaberry Exfoliating Soap
Fresh has a pretty large line of body products and I will need to order more of these in the coming months. I started with a bar soap that multiple sales associates at Sephora recommended to me for helping to treat and soothe very dry winter skin. The Fresh Seaberry Exfoliating Soap is just one product in their range of bar soaps and I am ready to pick up another bar of this product as soon as I run out of it. I don't know that I will be using this product all throughout the year and I am sure that I will go back to my favorite Bath and Body Works shower gels once spring comes. I have been using this bar soap every morning for the past few days and I have been very impressed so far.
"A triple-milled soap that gently buffs away dry, dull skin while cleansing the body to reveal a smooth complexion. Seaberry Exfoliating Soap gently buffs away dry, dull skin while cleansing the body to even skin tone and reveal a radiant glow. The nourishing formula is fortified with seaberry oil, a powerful antioxidant rich in omegas that restores and softens the skin. Natural exfoliants of cranberry, bamboo, and bitter orange help diminish dehydrated skin, while shea butter nourishes and hydrates. Triple-milled to last longer, it produces a rich, non-drying lather for a luxurious cleansing experience.", states the Sephora website.
The website also provides a quick story about the history of this ingredient (as it does for nearly every Fresh product), "The story of seaberry: “When I was two, living in a small town in East Siberia, I tipped over a pot of boiling water and burned my arm. The doctor treated me with a pasty orange salve that I later learned was seaberry oil. Native to Siberia, this restorative oil has been used for generations as a natural cure.”—Lev Glazman, Fresh Co-founder". High quality ingredients are very important to Fresh as a brand and they are known for providing all kinds of background about their products and the active ingredients contained in them.
I have been using this bar soap only in the morning and keeping with my traditional routine of Bath and Body Works shower gels and body moisturizers at night. I like this product in the morning because it smells very fresh and helps me to wake up in the shower. It also gently scrubs off the dead skin and leaves hydrating ingredients in its place. I love that this bar soap rinses clean and leaves no residue on the skin, a great feeling for before I get dressed and go to work. I really don't have any cons about this product and I will be purchasing another bar of it once my current bar runs out. It seems like Fresh has more shower gels than bar soaps so I will check many of those out once the weather starts to warm up and my skin is a bit less dry overall.

Caudalie Divine Oil
I have decided that the China Glaze collection that we looked at the other day will be my last holiday collection of the year. Many of the special gifts that were put out by Tarte and Stila are already sold out and I cannot see the point in showcasing products and collections that are sold out and have little to no chance of being restocked. I am guessing that I started my holiday collection coverage a bit too late this year, other blogs had pictures of products from these two brands up in the end of September...a time when I was in no mood to even think about the holidays. I am also starting to get excited for spring after reading the Spring Trend Report in the last issue of Allure. I think that I will have coverage of the upcoming spring trends coming within the next three weeks.
Today I wanted to focus on a great skincare product from Caudalie, I have been loving the Divine Oil as my skin is changing with the end of the fall and the beginning of the winter season. I bought this product at the end of October and saved it until my skin got a bit drier as the temperatures dropped. I bought this oil to use as a body moisturizer but I didn't realize that it could be used on the hair and face also. I have only tried it on my body and sprayed into my hair so I can't comment on facial use but I can review how it worked in the other two scenarios.
"A luxurious dry oil that provides nourishing moisture and lasting comfort to body, face, and hair. Divine Oil contains a blend of grape seed, hibiscus, sesame, and argan oils combined with patented grape seed antioxidant polyphenols to leave skin soft, visibly firm, and radiant. Perfect as a post-sun product, its glamorous texture is instantly absorbed, imparting a subtle, floral, and sunkissed fragrance.", states the Sephora website.
Caudalie is a brand that it well known for using grapes as a main ingredient, the anti-oxidant benefits of grapes and wine are becoming more popular in both the United States and Europe. This brand has harnessed the power of grapes ever since its first few products and I have used this brand for many years. I always get excited when new products come out and I have wanted to try this oil for the past few months. I had wanted to order the oil since late last winter and forgot until the weather warmed up too much to reap all the benefits of oil. I tend to use oils more in the fall and winter but this oil is light enough that I could it in all but the warmest months of the summer.
The key ingredients contained in this multi-purpose oil are...
- Grape Oil: Rejuvenates and nourishes.
- Extra Virgin Argan Oil: Restores hydrolipidic film.
- Sesame Oil: Softens and moisturizes.
- Patented Anti-oxidant Grape Seed Polyphenols
Divine Oil provides a light spray of oil all over the body or hair. I spray it right onto the skin and then rub it in with my hands, it hydrates quickly and leaves little to no residue on the skin. I also liked to use it as a pre-shampoo oil treatment on the ends of my hair. I shied away from using this oil on my face as it has a bit more fragrance contained in it than I normally like to use on my face.
The fragrance is a light floral with a hint of green notes. It is a slightly more floral version of their best selling perfume and I would also love a perfume in this fragrance for the spring. The fragrance will let me use this oil into the warmer weather and I will see how long I can use it into the spring and summer months.

Josie Maran Argan Matchmaker Serum Foundation
Today is the final post from my Josie Maran hauls at Sephora and my least favorite product of the group, I have found that the skincare products from this line are much nicer than the color products. I liked the Coconut Watercolor Cheek Gelee but it wasn't my favorite cream blush formula and the foundation formula follows much the same pattern. The foundation and the blush are nice formulas but the skincare products are stellar, this line could easily get rid of the color products without detracting from the overall line. The Argan Matchmaker Serum Foundation is a fair foundation formula but not one of the better ones that I have used and my least favorite product from this brand.
The Sephora website provides the following description of this foundation formula. "A serum foundation formulated with chameleon pigments, an innovative color-match technology that goes on white and instantly adjusts to match your unique and changing natural skintone as it balances and nourishes the skin. This is the only foundation you'll need year-round to provide age-defying undetectable coverage. The breakthrough serum foundation suspends over fine lines and wrinkles to smooth and correct visible signs of aging. The one-of-a-kind Organic Argan Oil infused formula strengthens and balances your skin while keeping oily areas shine-free, and dry spots naturally moisturized for totally flawless, younger looking skin. This serum works with whatever range of coloring that you fall into, either light/medium or medium/dark. The foundation starts out white and then changes color to match to your skin."
Unlike most foundations, this formula is only available in three shades. I was lucky enough that the palest shade worked well for me however I am sure there are quite a few skintones that will not work with any of these three shades and this product will prove unworkable for. I understand that this formula is designed to be "color-matching" but I cannot see how only three shades will work for the whole range of skintones.
The three shades are...
- Fair/ Light Shade Range: for the fairest porcelain skin with pink undertones to light skin with pink undertones
- Light/ Medium Shade Range: for the lightest skin with yellow-olive undertones to medium skin with yellow-olive undertones
- Medium/ Dark Shade Range: for medium tan skin all the way to the deepest skin tones
I use the Fair/Light Shade Range in this product. Two drops of this foundation were what I needed for light to medium coverage with this product, it does come out of the bottle white and then began to change color as I was doting it all over my face. Working it into my skin with a foundation sponge developed the color more fully and applied it evenly all over my face. The product feels nice and light going on and I do enjoy the texture of the Argan Matchmaker Serum Foundation. It glides over my dry patches and doesn't settle into the dry patches on my cheeks, I use this with a primer underneath and this makes application very smooth and simple.
I am not a big fan of the pump bottle, I see this clumping in the nozzle and I believe that I will need to start opening the bottle and applying it to my skin with a Q-Tip. Not my favorite way to apply this product...
This formula is a nice light coverage foundation, it never works up to much more than light-to-medium coverage and I needed a separate concealer on my red areas. I tried building the coverage up with a second coat in target areas but this only made the product streak and look much worse. This foundation is basically a glorified tinted moisturizer and I should have just bought the tinted moisturizer formula from this company instead. I was looking for a medium coverage foundation and this product did not live up to my expectations, it is nice formula as a light coverage foundation and performs more like a tinted moisturizer than a full foundation.
I doubt that I would repurchase this product again as I could just purchase a tinted moisturizer and get the exact same coverage from it. I was hoping for a product with better coverage and this one just did not live up to what I needed from it.

Josie Maran 100 Percent Pure Argan Oil
I have been using my new purchases from the Josie Maran product line for the past few weeks and I am liking the products more and more every single day. We have already looked at the face cleanser and blush from the collection and today we are looking at one of the hero products in the Josie Maran line. The majority of her products contain her exclusive Argan Oil ingredient and today we will looking at the purest version of it, the 100 Percent Pure Argan Oil moisturizer. I have used the Tarte Maracuja oil last winter and I was very happy with the results. My experience with that product were the primary reason that I decided to try this product from Josie Maran.
With the exception of when I used the Tarte oil as my night moisturizer, I have always used a lighter face cream or lotion during the day and then a heavier product at night. There are two versions of this face oil and it is also contained in multiple moisturizers in this line. I wanted to try the most pure form of the ingredient first and I will be trying more of the moisturizers throughout the rest of the winter.
"A 100 percent natural, organic, and antioxidant-rich oil to hydrate and nourish skin, hair, and nails. This legendary, 100 percent pure Argan Oil is rich in vitamin E and essential fatty acids to deeply hydrate and nourish skin. Grown organically in Morocco, the multitasking formula contains astonishing healing, conditioning, and antiaging properties to create a nourished, youthful-looking complexion. It easily absorbs into skin, delivering a fresh, dewy glow, and keeps you looking beautiful from head to toe. Especially great for sensitive and acne-prone skin, it may also be used to treat split ends and soften cuticles."
"Pure Argan Oil is first cold pressed to ensure the best quality, highest-grade oil. It is housed in a recyclable glass bottle and purchased from women's cooperatives in Morocco to support their social and economic welfare. These cooperatives work within a UNESCO biosphere reserve that ensures the protection and reforestation of Argan trees.", states the Sephora website.
The Sephora website provides further results of the clinical trials of this product. "In a 4-week clinical test:
- 83% of women showed significantly improved skin hydration
- Participants saw a visible reduction in coarse wrinkles and fine lines in the eye area"
I have heard this product described as a "Holy Grail" by those ladies who have dry, sensitive skin and love the feel and hydration results from face oils. This is one of the best selling and top rated face oils at Sephora and a product that was recommended to me by several Sephora sales associates and managers during my visit.
I use this product only at night, it is richer and more hydrating than I usually prefer in a day cream. I doubt that I would ever use this or any type of oil during the day and I also am not sure how long into the spring that I would be using this product. It is pretty safe for me to say that oils are best during the cold weather for me and would take the place of my traditional night cream.
There are quite a few advantages to this product for those with dry and/or sensitive skin. The oil hydrates wells and absorbs very quickly, I have been looking at my pillowcase every morning to see if there is excess residue on it and so far there have been no major issues. My red cheek area has been soothed with the use of this product and I have had no issues with any type of irritation on my delicate facial skin. Overall, I am very happy with this product for my skin type.
This oil is recommended for all skin types but I cannot see how this would work on oily skin types. I might have a better idea of an answer to this question as the weather warms up and my skin becomes less dry. Facial oils are a great idea for me in the winter months however I can't see myself using this product much into the spring season. I would consider switching over to one of the Josie Maran face lotions at this time so I could reap the benefits of the argan oil but in a more diluted form.

Josie Maran Argan Cleansing Face Oil
I started collecting some new products from the Josie Maran line of face and color products with my last big Sephora trip and have already spent some time playing around with her unique blush formula. I have started to use her skincare products over the past few days and am starting to understand and see the benefits of her unique argan oil formulations. I purchased the face wash, face oil, and an argan oil foundation. I haven't used the foundation yet and just started with the face oil but I have been using the face wash for the past few nights so I am going to start with that product for today.
I haven't used a cleansing oil for a quite a long time, there was a formula from Nude that I loved several winters ago and I wanted to try a face oil for the beginning of the cold weather months. Most of last winter, I used a creamy formula from Clinique that I really enjoyed but I wanted to see if an oily formula would help my skin retain moisture better. I liked the cream formula but I found that my face would still dry out rather quickly after getting out of the shower at night. I wanted to see if this type of formula would reduce that effect on my skin as we head into the coldest months of the year.
The Josie Maran Argan Cleansing Face Oil is the only face wash that is offered in this line. "A gentle, all-natural cleanser with nourishing argan oil to melt away makeup and deeply hydrate skin. This effective, multitasking cleanser removes makeup and skin impurities while providing essential hydration. Sunflower, safflower, and grape seed oils cleanse the skin's surface and renew the complexion, leaving it healthy-looking and refreshed. Ideal for all skin types, the non-greasy texture leaves skin feeling moisturized—never tight or dry.", states the Sephora website.
Argan Oil is exclusive to the Josie Maran brand. Sephora provides more details about this exclusive ingredient, "Argan oil restores the skin's natural moisture and pH balance. It is produced from the argan tree in the semideserts of Morocco. Rich in vitamin E and essential fatty acids, this organically grown ingredient is known to prevent skin dehydration, inflammation, hyperpigmentation, and excess production of sebum."
I started by using two pumps of this product to clean my entire face however quickly realized that one and a half pumps is the perfect amount for completely cleaning my whole face and neck without wasting excess product. This cleansing oil doesn't foam up and it was hard for me to judge the best amount without applying it to my face. Once I pump the product into my wet hands, I rub my hands together to turn the product into a milky liquid and then apply it to a wet face and work it into my skin.
This product rinses clean and doesn't leave any makeup residue on my face. The biggest fear that many people have with oils is that they will not fully remove makeup and will leave an oily residue all over the skin. This product does neither of those things yet doesn't strip my skin of moisture. I only wash my face at night to get my makeup off before applying night cream. I have no reason to wash my face again in the morning so I can't comment on using this product more than once a day. It hasn't irritated my sensitive skin and helps my skin to retain moisture during the cleansing process. I doubt that this product would work as well for anyone will normal to oily skin types but it is fabulous for dry skin in the winter months.
I want to get a few more days in using this wash and then following it up with the face oil before I comment on the effectiveness of the face oil and the use of argan oil as an ingredient. I am very happy with this product so far and look forward to trying more skin products from this line.

L'Occitane Cleansing and Softening Shower Oil with Almond Oil
The whole time that I worked at Bath and Body Works in college, we were always getting customers requesting body products with almond in them. We never carried anything like this so I have always been curious as to what the obsession with almond is. I have only ever found one brand that carried almond body products and I recently purchased a shower gel to try and understand what the magic of almond is. The brand that I purchased the almond cleanser from is the French brand L'Occitane and this is the first body product that I have used from them.
L'Occitane has an entire line of almond products and I decided to start with the cleansing body wash, multiple associates from Sephora suggested this as a great winter body wash for dry skin. It is not technically a "body wash" as a "cleansing oil". The Cleansing and Softening Shower Oil with Almond Oil is going to be my morning body wash for the middle of the winter, this is a hydrating product that will help my skin to retain moisture in the worst of the cold weather months.
"A decadent body cleanser that is rich in almond oil and features a foaming oil-to-milk texture that leaves skin satiny-smooth. Start moisturizing in the shower with this indulgent cleanser. The shower oil contains almond oil, naturally rich in omega 6 fatty acids to help soften the skin. The unique formula transforms into a milky foam upon contact with water, leaving a mouthwatering scent of fresh almonds for a true moment of delight. This oil also makes a great base for shaving. Almonds are an incredibly delicate fruit to grow: the best almonds require cool air without ever freezing. L'Occitane almonds are sourced from a very special region in Haute Provence, where some of the most delicious and nutritious almonds grow. L'Occitane supports the sustainability of almond trees in the region, as these trees, while difficult to grow, are a staple to the beauty of the Provencal landscape.", states the Sephora website.
I first tried using this like a traditional body wash and used it with a shower pouf. This was a big mistake as it doesn't foam up and it covered my pouf but never really transferred to my skin. The second time that I used this was much better. I poured a bit out into my hands and then rubbed my wet hands together to heat up and distribute the product. I then used my hands to apply it right to my wet skin. Once the product had contact with water, it turned into a rich, milky lather on my skin. It rinses clean and left a slight almond fragrance on my skin.
I was able to skip the lotion after this product, it didn't strip my skin like traditional body washes and helped to jump start the hydration process right in the shower. This product will be amazing when my skin gets very dry in the winter months and tends to dry out by the time that I am getting out of the shower in the morning.
After using this product, I can understand why people love almond oil and the almond fragrance. I would like to add more products from this line into my body product collection throughout this winter and I look forward to trying more body products from the company to my line up.

Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Cheek Gelee
I decided to take a break from thinking about the upcoming holiday collections and products and go back to adding to my blush collection. I have mostly been obsessing over powder blushes so I decided to check another formula out. This is also my first purchase from the Josie Maran line of skincare and cosmetics products, I purchased two blush shades and a few skincare products so I will have quite a few product reviews coming up from this line. Today we are going to focus on the blush product that I have been playing with and we will look more at her famed Argan Oil when I review the skincare products.
The blush from Josie Maran in a cream-gel formula and one of the most unique that I have ever tried. There are some wonderful aspects of this product and aspects of it that I cannot stand. This is one of those products that I am very on the fence about, I don't know that I would ever purchase it again because I love the formula but the packaging is so awful that it kills the whole product for me.
The Josie Maran products are sold exclusively at Sephora (other than her website) so all the photos and product descriptions will be coming from that website. "An innovative coconut water-infused cheek gelée with up to 14 hours of color and hydration. This buildable, blendable blush hybrid provides the natural look of a cream blush with the long-lasting hydrating color of a gel stain. Infused with 50 percent pure coconut water, it instantly hydrates while nourishing with the powerful benefits of vitamin E-rich argan oil. Like a refreshing sip of coconut water for your skin, this moisture-packed blush instantly drenches cheeks in a cool veil of color."
Josie goes on to add more details about the inspiration behind the formula. '“Living on the beach in Oahu, I became a devotée of coconut water—and noticed that drinking lots of it seemed to make my skin and hair glow. I created Coconut Watercolor Cheek Gelée to bring that hydrating color to my face, and yours. Have a sip of coconut water for your face with this blush that's cool to the touch.” —Josie Maran"
I have no other formula to compare this cream blush to as it is like nothing that I have ever owned or seen before. I LOVE this formula, it is pigmented and easy to spread. I take one finger and rub it on the top of the blush and that gives me enough product to use for one entire cheek, this jars will last forever as I need next to none of the product to achieve full pigmentation. Once blended, the formula stays perfectly in place all day and doesn't fade even after a full work out. I will love this formula during the hottest days of the summer and it will be a staple for me next summer.
The Coconut Watercolor Cheek Gelee is available in the following shades...
- Poppy Paradise - warm toned coral pink
- Pink Escape - medium cool pink
- Honeymoon Honey - medium warm tan
- Getaway Red - medium warn toned red
I bought Pink Escape and Poppy Paradise. Pink Escape was my first choice and Poppy Paradise was a distinct second choice, Pink Escape is a great shade for me right now and I will be putting Poppy Paradise away to wear with bronzer next summer. Both shades are very highly pigmented and both last all day long. There is no formula variation between the two shades.
So far I have been talking about what I love about this product and now we need to look at what I cannot stand about this product. I detest this packaging, the screw top container screws on and off hard and I need to check it twice to make sure that I have it on correctly (any product with this type of container can dry out if the container isn't screwed on fully), I nearly screwed it up twice in less than a week. My second complaint with the container is how messy this product can become, I had a bit on foundation on my finger during application and I left fingerprints in the product. I have to wash my hands before and after application of each cheek in order to keep the product hygienic.
I can't say that I would ever purchase this product again for two big reasons (other than I can't stand the packaging). This formula is so great that the jars that I bought will last forever and there are no more shades that I would want to buy as the shade range is very limited. I would recommend these to anyone that loves cream blushes and wants a very pigmented cheek look but I would caution them about the screw top jar packaging.

Biolage KeratinDose Shampoo and Conditioner
I am rather loyal to my Biolage shampoo and conditioner formulated for color-treated hair but I always try and alternate between more than one formula. My hair stylist gave me some small bottles of the shampoos and conditioners in some of the various Biolage formulas and I start trying them out about two weeks ago. I started with the KeratinDose products as my hair will only need more hydration as the weather continues to cool out. So far, the combination of the Color Care and KeratinDose has proved to be spot on and I would consider buying the full sizes in these two products.
The KeratinDose products work very well for anyone who has chemical damage to their hair or who heat styles on a regular basis. I see that there is a hydrating treatment spray in this collection and I would like to purchase that product also at some point.
The shampoo is described as, "Damaged, over-processed hair can be brittle, dull and lifeless. Formulated with Pro-Keratin and Silk, our keratin shampoo provides targeted reinforcement for over-processed, weak or fragile hair. When combined with the KeratinDose Conditioner and Pro-Keratin Renewal Spray, formulas provide cleansing while locking in moisture to help fight frizz. Restore overprocessed hair. 90% more conditioned after one application."
The benefits of this product are listed in the Biolage website...
- Rich, sulfate free lather gently cleanses while maintaining the integrity of over-processed hair
- Formula with Pro-Keratin and silk provides targeted reinforcement and moisture balance to the hair
- Hair is shiny and healthy-looking with increased elasticity
- Free of sulfates, parabens and harsh salts
The matching conditioner has the following description, "Damaged, over-processed and unconditioned hair can feel brittle, lacking manageability and shine. Formulated with Pro-Keratin and Silk, our KeratinDose Conditioner provides targeted reinforcement for over-processed, weak or fragile hair. When combined with the KeratinDose Shampoo and Pro-Keratin Renewal Spray, formulas provide nourishment and cleansing while balancing moisture for over-processed hair. Restore overprocessed hair. 90% more conditioned after one application."
The following benefits are listed on the Biolage website...
- Paraben free conditioner moisturizes and smoothes overprossed hair
- Formula nourishes hair and prevents damage
- Hair is left silky with manageability
The shampoo is a nice formula but does not really provide any results that set it apart from other hydrating formulas. It cleanses well without stripping my hair or leaving a residue all over the strands. The conditioner is a great product, it hydrates very nicely and makes my hair very easy to straighten. Keratin will not help to bring hair "back to life" as it is already dead but it will help to hydrate and smooth the hair cuticle. The smoothing aspect of this product really helps me to style my hair in the morning.
The performance of the conditioner guarantees that I would purchase the duo again without a second thought. I am very fond of the Biolage products and I can't wait to keep trying more from this line.

Fresh Sugar Face Polish
Today we are returning to what seems to be my never ending obsession with collecting new products from Fresh. I used their lip products first and then tried a few of their face products, their Black Tea Face Mask got me hooked on this line and I have been picking new items from this company up each time that I visit Sephora. The latest product that I have been playing around with the Sugar Face Polish, I first used the Sugar Lip Polish and loved it so much that I wanted to try the product designed for my whole face. The lip scrub exfoliated well and tasted great and I have decided that I love the entire Sugar line from Fresh. I think I will start checking out the body products in the upcoming months.
The weather is now beginning to cool off after a very hot and humid month of September and my skin is now beginning to need products that will adapt with it. The past few weeks were interesting in that I had to go back to using summer products much later than normal. I have a feeling that my skin is going to change really rapidly now and start getting dry. My skin is typically touchy in fall because of the change of the seasons and I want to use a scrub on a regular basis to try and control the changes. I haven't used a sugar scrub on my face before but I am very happy with the results of this product and will keep using it all through winter.
The Sephora website states the following for a product description, "An all-in-one refining exfoliator and nourishing mask made with pure brown sugar and real strawberries that creates the appearance of a softer, smoother, more radiant complexion. This innovative formula is powered by pure brown sugar, a natural humectant that seals in moisture, to gently buff away dry, dull skin. Real wild strawberries packed with vitamin C help brighten and soothe, while hydrating plum seed oil and grapeseed oil leave the skin soft and supple. An invigorating aroma from a natural blend of citrus oils further enhances the experience."
The founders of Fresh always provide more information about why these choose certain ingredients and I love learning even more about what goes into making beauty products. "Fresh Co-founders Lev Glazman and Alina Roytberg's grandmothers used sugar, a natural antiseptic, to heal their scrapes when they were children. Wanting to pass this ritual on to the world, they bottled their shared tradition, pioneering the use of sugar in the beauty industry."
The texture of this facial scrub is thick and creamy, I need about a nickel-sized amount to cover my whole face. As with any other sugar-based products, I have to warm the product up by rubbing it in between my hands. Sugar products work best when they are warmed up a bit and they will apply better and more evenly. I rub the product all over my wet face and neck and then work it in evenly for about 60 seconds. Warm water helps to dissolve the sugar easily and this scrub rinses easily and doesn't leave a residue on my skin. I do like that it smells more like natural fruit than the chemical mix that some scrubs tend to smell like.
I have used this product twice so far and am starting with once a week use. I might work up to twice a week use after seeing if it dries my skin out as the weather continues to cool down. This product gets rid of dry areas and helps my skincare products to absorb better. This scrub has not caused any adverse reaction to my skin and I have not had any issues with excess dryness or redness after use. My skin always looks clearer and brighter after use of this scrub and I will continue to use this product for the rest of the season.
I can say that I love the Fresh brand more and more every single day and will keep picking up more products from it. This is fast becoming a favorite skincare brand of mine!

Fresh Sugar Lip Polish
I have just finished raving about one of the new Fresh skincare products that I have been using and now I am moving onto to another one of their products that I have been loving the past few days. The Black Tea Face Mask has already established its place in my weekly skincare regime and I am continuing to think about what other products I will need to purchase as the winter starts to cool down. A weekly face mask will be quite helpful to me and I will continue to check more products from Fresh out. Today I am looking at a Fresh lip product that I picked up the last time that I visited Sephora. I love the Fresh Sugar lip product line and the Lip Polish might be one of my new favorite lip products. I used to use a lip scrub from C.O. Bigelow but Bath and Body Works didn't have it the last time that I was at the store and I needed to find something else to use.
My lips are always dry and I have to use lip balms and scrubs on a regular basis in order to keep them smooth and lipstick ready. "A sweet exfoliating treatment that leaves lips incredibly soft and smooth. This unique formula is enriched with real brown sugar crystals to gently buff away dry flakes as it exfoliates and conditions for a smooth finish. It nourishes the lips with quick-absorbing meadowfoam seed, jojoba seed, and grapeseed oils while shea butter provides long-lasting moisture. Lips are left smooth, protected, and hydrated.", states the Sephora website.
I use this product once a week right now and then will increase up to two times per week as the winter comes. I use in on my lips before I get into the shower and then scrub them with my finger for about thirty seconds before rinsing it off. It helps to get rid of dry patches and improve my overall lip texture. I can't say that it helps to hydrate as I use a lip balm as soon as I get out of the shower. I once tried skipping this step and my lips were dry soon after getting out of the shower and using the scrub. I will just continue to apply the balm right after showering.
Sugar is an essential ingredient in the Fresh lip care line. "The inspiration for the Sugar Collection dates back to Fresh co-founders Lev Glazman and Alina Roytberg's childhood. Each of their grandmothers used sugar, a natural antiseptic, to heal their scrapes. Wanting to pass this effective ritual on to the world, they bottled their shared tradition, pioneering the use of sugar in the beauty industry." I can't speak for sugar's healing properties but I do like that this scrub doesn't contain foul tasting chemicals since I always manage to get the product in my mouth when I use it.
The Sugar Lip Polish is another high quality product from the Fresh brand and I will be repurchasing it once this jar runs out. I use only a very little bit at a time so I doubt that I will need to repurchase any time soon but I am glad that I have another formula to rely on since my C.O. Bigelow one seems to have disappeared...

Aveda Damage Remedy Intensive Restructuring Hair Treatment
Aveda is a relatively new brand for me and I have branched out from the using the makeup to adding the hair care products to my beauty product line up. I have heard the most amazing reviews of their Smooth Infusion hair care line and I will order several bottles of the shampoo and conditioner when I am in need of some new products. I just bought new liter bottles of my favorite Biolage Color products so this won't be anytime soon but a review will be forthcoming once I get to try them out. One of the few hair products that I was actually in need of is a new deep conditioner so I started my love affair with Aveda hair products by ordering one of the best selling formulas.
The Damage Remedy Intensive Restructuring Hair Treatment is designed to help hydrate and repair signs of surface damage. I have both problems with my hair all the time since it is chemically treated and heat styled on a regular basis. The best deep conditioner that I have found so far is from the Carol's Daughter line at Sephora and the Aveda formula is on par with it, I am glad that I have two formulas that I love just in case either ever becomes unavailable. Both formulas are quite similar and I will touch on why I love both of them after a few more details about the Aveda formula.
"Intensive treatment packed with quinoa protein strengthens damaged and chemically-treated hair with deep repair. Quinoa-packed treatment fills in damaged cuticles to help strengthen and reinforce hair—which also makes it more resilient to future damage. Replenishes natural oils with jojoba, to leave hair looking and feeling healthy, shiny and strong. Part of a four-step restructuring system.", states the Aveda website.
The Aveda treatment is top rated and best selling for many reasons, the biggest one being that it is very effective and really improves my hair. I use it once a week for about five minutes in the shower and it guarantees that I will have a good hair day after use. It hydrates well and rinses clean without leaving any traces of residue behind. This mask hydrates the dry and damaged areas of my hair and helps to restore shine to the areas that need it most. It helps to repair signs of surface damage, improving the overall look and feel of my long thick hair.
The proteins in this product will help to fill in the cracks and weak areas of my hair but cannot repair or bring hair back to life. It helps to smooth the surface by filling in the top cracks and reducing the appearance of frayed ends, both of which I need with my love of heat styling. My hair is soft to the touch and overall I am very happy with the results that I get from this product.
I get great results from both this product and the Carol's Daughter Monoi Mask, the Aveda product might come out on top for me because of the fragrance. The Aveda product has a slight herbal fragrance, it is light and doesn't bother me at all. The Carol's Daughter product has a strong tropical floral fragrance which might deter some users of the product and therefore I would recommend the Aveda product over the other for anyone who has issues with or doesn't like much fragrance in their hair products.
This was a great introduction to Aveda hair products for me and I will be buying more from this company. I think my next purchase will be the Smooth Infusion Shampoo and Conditioner and perhaps the same products from the Color Care line.

Fresh Black Tea Instant Perfecting Face Mask
I have been wary to try any new skincare products the past few weeks ever since my skin went crazy at the beginning of this month but I need to start opening some of the products that I have bought to get my skin ready for the cooler temperatures. I wanted to ease into it and decided to start with the a Fresh mask as my skin has never reacted to one of their products and I have been using them for a few years now. I bought the Black Tea in stead of the Rose but want to try that one very soon too. The Black Tea Mask is about providing anti-oxidant protection to the skin and added hydration, both of which I need the most in the fall and winter months. I have used in twice so far and I am quite happy with this mask so I am sure that this will become a winter staple and then I will investigate switching it on and off with the Rose Face Mask.
The Fresh Black Tea Instant Perfecting Face Mask will be a staple in my skincare regime to help my skin retain moisture and appear healthier as the cold air sets in. I ordered the product from Sephora and I will provide their product description, "A hydrating treatment that immediately reveals softer, firmer, healthier-looking skin. Black Tea Instant Perfecting Mask with advanced antioxidants is a hydrating treatment that immediately reveals softer, firmer, healthier-looking skin. The innovative formula’s velvety whipped texture has an immediate cooling effect to refresh the skin and the senses. Black tea ferment, also known as Kombucha, is an advanced antioxidant that helps to defend against wrinkle-causing free radicals while softening, smoothing, and enhancing luster. The formula is further enriched with lychee seed extract, known to support natural collagen, firming polysaccharides that help to smooth the skin, and jicima root juice, notable for its hydrating and nourishing properties."
Fresh co-founder Lez Glazman adds more information about the development of the mask formula. 'After first trying Kombucha, a drink made with black tea ferment, I noticed an instant boost in my energy levels and began researching the extract at once. Referred to as the ‘Immortal Health Elixir,’ its history traces back to 250 B.C. I found that just as it reenergized my body, black tea works to reenergize the skin’s cells"'
The first reason that I was attracted to this mask is that I love to drink unsweetened black iced tea from Starbucks and I drink it about three times a week all throughout the year. I find that green tea has more of the soothing effect and the black tea will keep me going all day long. It's nice to see that this effect was not all in my head after reviewing Glazman's statement and that this mask will help my skin in a similar fashion.
As stated before, I have used this mask twice in the past ten days and I have liked it very much so far. The instructions do say to use it for five to twenty minutes at a time twice or three times a week. I think that I will move into using it twice a week, I wanted to start slow with how many skin issues I had at the beginning of the month. I use the mask on clean skin for about ten minutes and really like that I can see and feel a difference right after rinsing the product off. My skin typically feels dry right after I get out of the shower and towel off. I need to get some type of serum or cream on my face quickly or my cheeks will begin to hurt. After use of this product, I don't get the dryness right after I get out of the shower and my skin holds the moisture in better. I could not skip face cream but I use less and my skin looks much smoother and clearer than before I started using it. The effect lasts for the next two showers after use so I do think that using it as Fresh directs will continue to improve my skin even more.
The mask not only helps to hydrate my skin but it brightens my overall complexion. The redness in my cheeks is reduced and I need have needed a bit less foundation since I have started use of this product. The texture is very appealing, it is thick jelly and actually feels cool when applied to the skin. It is does not "dry" and absorbs mostly into the skin when a thin layer is applied all over the face. This mask is very easy to use and works very well, I will start using it twice a week and then hope to see even more results in my skin.

L'Occitance Ultra Rich Face Cream
The last heat wave of the late summer is finally over and I am moving my skincare over to many of the items that I had bought for fall. I had actually started buying fall skin care early last month but had to go back to summer skin care items with the extended heat wave that occurred. My skin has definitely realized that the heat and humidity are over and has become much drier than it has been in weeks. I am slowly switching over to my fall skincare arsenal and decided that I needed to change my night cream before anything else. I opened up my newest face cream from L'Occitance several nights ago.
The Ultra Rich Face Cream is the first skincare product that I have purchased from this company and so far it is working out quite well. This face cream is only for dry skin and I would never recommend it for anyone that has any other skin type. I don't even think that I would be able to use this cream during the day and be able to use makeup over it. This product hydrates very well but doesn't fully absorb and wouldn't be the best to use during the day.
I ordered this face cream from Sephora. Sephora gives the following product description, "A luxurious face cream that deeply nourishes and intensely protects dry to very dry skin types. The Ultra Rich Face Cream is the perfect moisturizer for skin in need of intensive hydration. The formula is exceedingly dense and creamy, although rapidly absorbed without leaving an oily film, and is specially formulated to hydrate, nourish, and protect dry and damaged skin. It has been proven to increase skin hydration for up to 24 hours. In addition to 25 percent shea butter, the formula is made with wheat and chestnut extracts to strengthen the skin. These extracts are rich in vitamins and minerals, which help to replenish the skin's hydrolipidic film and restore balance to the skin's barrier, defending it against harsh environmental conditions."
The texture of this cream is very rich and creamy, it is more of a balm than an actual cream. I have to run my finger over the top of this product and pick up the smallest amount possible. I first tried scooping it out like I would my other face creams but so much product came out that it didn't absorb at all. Less is definitely more with this face cream and only the smallest bit will absorb in the skin. This product does not fully absorb into the skin and leaves a bit of a film on the skin, the main reason that I would only use this as a night cream.
The 25 percent shea butter in this formula hydrates very well but does have a bit of a heavy feeling on the skin. Again this product is only for dry to very dry skin types. It reduces some of the redness that is in my skin and helps to keep the moisture in even after I shower in the morning. The hydrating benefits are great and this is a very good product for those with tight and dry skin. The more natural ingredients did not irritate my skin and I was very happy with this face cream.
The only way that this face cream could be improved would be to have it absorb better into the skin, I would never be able to use this as a day cream and put primer and foundation on top of it. As a night cream, it hydrates well and helps to reduce redness due to dry skin. I am looking forward to trying more face products from this company and more from the shea butter line.

Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush
I have been in a blush shopping mode lately...yesterday we looked at the Urban Decay Naked Flush palette and today I am reviewing the Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush. I go through phases with blushes, I will buy and try several new ones right in a row and then I won't pick anything new up for a few weeks or months. I tend to purchase blush the most right around the changing of the seasons, I have been all about replacing some of my current formulas as fall is right around the corner. I have used mostly eye makeup and skincare from Tarte so blush is a brand new experience for me from this company.
I debated between trying the cheek stain formula or the powder blush formula and decided to start with the powder blush. I will start trying of the cheek stains within the next few months and then I will decide which formula is the better performing of the two. I was pleased to see that both formulas are designed to be very longwearing, I need this type of formula as grad school classes are starting up again and my typical day is about 13 hours long and I need products that will look fresh and pigmented throughout the whole day.
"A long-wearing, solar-baked blush that lasts up to 12 hours. Infused with natural clay harvested from the banks of the Amazon River and naturally baked by the sun, this nutrient-rich blush benefits all skin types for a fade-free flawless finish that lasts an amazing 12 hours. Inspired by tarte's bestselling shades of cheek stains and lip tints, the colors range from soft to vivid to suit a wide variety of skintones. For oily skin types, Amazonian clay minimizes oil in and around pores to balance skin and keep product in place. Those with dry skin will benefit from the clay's nourishing and hydrating properties, which naturally restore skin's moisture. Combination skin types can rely on its ability to zero in on skin concerns and deliver benefits to restore complexion harmony. The result: Blush that wears better, longer, and truer. This product is free of petrochemicals, synthetic fragrances, GMOs, and triclosan.", states the Sephora website.
This blush formula comes in a range of shades and every one that I have tried has full pigmentation. I have been the most interested in collecting the pink shades due to my pale skintone, my self tan is pretty much done at this point in the year and I am going back to shades that are best with my pale skin.
The shades of Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush...
- Exposed - nude
- Dazzled - soft rose
- Dollface - light pink
- Fearless - coral pink
- Tipsy - coral
- Blissful - shimmering warm peach
- Captivating - warm peach
- Glisten - shimmering peachy pink
- Peaceful - soft nude peach
- Charisma - warm golden apricot
- Achiote - honeysuckle
- Natural Beauty - muted strawberry red
- Flush - pink berry
- Blushing Bride - plumy rose
I bought both the Dollface and Flush shades at Sephora, these were the two best pinks that are carried in the shade range. Both shades wear for a full fourteen hours and remain nicely pigmented throughout the day. The pigment level is medium-to-full, I find that NARS and Illamasqua have higher pigmentation than these but the Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush has better pigment than most brands. I am sold on this product and I will be looking for a few more shades of this product. I would like Dazzled and Blushing Bride, I wish there were a few more cool shades in this collection of shades but I am hoping that we will see more as Tarte adds to this product line.

Aveda Nourish-Mint Smoothing Lip Color
I have said before in this blog that lip products are the one item that I prefer with natural or organic ingredients. I once read that the average woman eats about eight pounds of lipstick over her lifetime and using a more natural product will eliminate some of the chemicals that are ingested. I am not saying that I will only be using natural lip products but I will be trying to find more brands that fall into this category. Aveda falls right into this category and I couldn't wait to order a few lipsticks from their website.
The Aveda website states the following about their Nourish-Mint Smoothing Lip Color, "75% of women noticed fuller lips after 2 weeks*. Smooths appearance of fine lines by 26%**. Increases moisture by 26%**. Contains refreshing aroma-flavor with the certified organic essential oils of peppermint, vanilla, and ginger."
These lipsticks smell very similar to the C.O. Bigelow Vanilla Mint Mentha Lip Shine and I love that aspect of the product! I ordered lipsticks that are in the Berry and Rose families to start with and will continue to purchase more from this product collection. I surprised myself by not ordering a red shade but I wanted to add some different shades to my collection and I am sure that I will be ordering some red hues in the upcoming weeks.
Here are the available shades from Aveda!
- 510 Fossil - neutral gold rose with light shimmer
- 520 Sutra - cool earthy rose with light shimmer
- 531 Blushed Honey - cool bronze rose with high shimmer
- 711 Butternut - warm rich brown
- 821 Kashmir Brown - shimmery natural nude
- 312 Lychee Splash - shimmery coral pink
- 320 Sugar Apple - cool deep violet pink with shimmer
- 330 Mulberry - warm rosy pink with light shimmer
- 935 Magenta Berry - deep magenta
- 611 Stargrape - cool shimmery violet plum
- 908 Snapdragon - warm saturated red
- 909 Rare Orchid - cool red violet
- 410 Wild Plum - soft shimmery plum
- 430 Cerise - deep red plum
- 721 Poppy - bright cool red
- 907 Wild Fuchsia - bright fuchsia pink
- 720 Hot Pepper - deep warm spicy brown
- 733 Cherry Bud - warm brick red
- 913 Cana - intense red-orange
I bought Mulberry, Stargrape, and Cerise. Mulberry is the easiest of the shades to wear, it is semi-sheer rosy pink that works very well with my pale cool toned skin. I can wear this one with any type of eye makeup look or for a more natural look. Stargrape is one that I have only tried once or twice at home so far, this deep satin plum will work well later on in fall and will be best for getting dressed up at night. I would not be able to pull this off in a professional environment because of the contrast between my pale skin and deep hue but someone with a deeper skintone would not have that same issue. Cerise is listed as a "red plum" but I found it to be more of a warm plum than having a "red" cast to it. I would use Cerise in the same way that I would use Stargrape, Cerise is a warm plum satin that will be a great shade when dressing up and going out this fall.
I found that the Aveda lipsticks are not as pigmented as many of the other ones on the market. If you prefer a more pigmented product than I recommend NARS or Urban Decay. Nourish-Mint can be described as having a medium pigmentation, every shade appears nicely on the lips but the effect is not as dramatic as a full pigment lipstick. These lipsticks will be an easy transition for someone who prefers sheer lip balms or lip glosses to a traditional lipstick. The majority of these shades will be easy to work into a more professional look, exceptions will only be with the deepest of the lipstick shades.
My favorite aspect of this lipstick formula is the hydrating property. These lipsticks hydrate and feel like a traditional lip balm and help to care for the lips while providing a great color. The downside here is that this formula tends to come off pretty quickly and does not last much longer than three or four hours (without eating or drinking). This is common issue with very hydrating lipsticks so I am not surprised but I would love for these shades to last a bit longer than they do.
I am already making a short list of shades that I will pick up from the salon on my next visit. I need to get a red from this formula, therefore my top pick is Poppy. My other choices are Sutra and Magenta Berry. Sutra will be a good neutral for me and Magenta Berry will be a good fall bright for me to work into my makeup look.

Zoya Fall 2013 Collection - Cashmeres and Satins
September has just began and I am know craving some new polish colors for fall. Therefore today we are going to look at the newest collection from Zoya and then we are going right into looking at China Glaze's new collection tomorrow. I start wearing fall reds and jewel tones on my toes right around Labor Day and then will start wearing them on my hands toward the middle of the month. Zoya is a nail polish formula that I have just began to wear and will be buying more of over my next few Ulta visits. This is one of the formulas that my hair stylist recommends the most and is one that contains no animal products or byproducts in the formula.
The new collection is called Cashmeres and Satins, this company always divides their seasonal collection up into two parts. Each part has a different finish and most of the time the two parts contains the same or very similar shades in the different finishes. So I expect that we will see a group that contains a metallic finish and a group that contains a satin finish.
The shades that are part of the Cashmere collection:
- Giovanna - stunning emerald green metallic (originally designed for Zang Toi/AW13)
- Maria-Louisa - gold cellophane accent topper (originally designed for Rafael Cennamo/AW13)
- Livingston - lush autumn red cream
- Channing - rusty coppery red metallic
- Pepper - brick red cream (originally designed for Peter Som/AW 13)
- Mason - exciting red violet metallic
- Flynn - lush camel brown nude cream
- Louise - rich brown cream
- Neve - sapphire blue metallic (original designed for Zang Toi/AW13)
- Hunter - dark sea green cream
- Sailor - classic dark navy cream
- Claudine - striking dark meteorite gray metallic
I love this collection and I am really pumped to grab some new nail polish shades in the coming weeks! My favorite shade is the one that I have pictured, Giovanna. I can only imagine how lovely this shade looked when worn by the models on the Zang Toi runway and I want to start wearing this shade as soon as possible. Flynn will be a good choice for a neutral and this will be one that I will fall back on and use as a staple in my polish line up. Here is the rest of my shopping list when I visit Ulta: Maria-Louisa, Livingston, Pepper, Neve, Hunter, Sailor, and Claudine. I would love if Zoya sold sets of polishes, I want so many shades from this collection that I would be more than happy to order sets.
I already have a nice list for my next Ulta visit and I know that I will be adding to it tomorrow when we check out the new collection from China Glaze. This is one of my favorite collections so far this season and the best nail polish collection that we have seen so far.
